my uncle's barber's cousin knew a boy
who saw as plain as day with his good eye
the wily shadow government deploy
its secret weapon from a clear blue sky

as unmarked cargo copters swiftly skimmed
he saw like snarling furies in the air
inexorably wafting on the wind
a parachuting horde of grizzly bears

which proves an international cabal
of russians, belgians, and biologists
prepares itself to subjugate us all
by dropping ursine moles into our midst

confronted with such damning evidence
we take up poetry in self defense



(My wife's cousin is a wildlife biologist in Montana. She says her work sometimes takes her into rural areas where everyone knows someone who knows someone who saw the black helicopters sent by the United Nations to drop hundreds of grizzly bears into the local woods. Apparently the story has a remote connection to actual fact. The U.S. government has been engaged for some years in a program to reintroduce grizzly bears to portions of Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. The United Nations refused to respond to my request for information on this subject, so the degree of their involvement remains unknown.)
